Here are some scenes you're likely to see on our tours of Louisiana Cajun Country.

Music!

Fiddling a sprightly festival tune! The fiddle, the accordian, and the triangle are the three signature instruments of Cajun music. Saturday nights it's Cajun Country's answer to The Grand Old Opry: The Rendez Vous des Cajuns Show in Eunice, where music plays and everyone can dance! The Romero brothers regularly play traditional Cajun tunes beneath St. Martinville's legendary Evangeline Oak.

A float from one of Lafayette's many parades: Lafayette's family-oriented celebration is second only to New Orleans'.

Mardi Gras!

Two colorfully costumed celebrants in Lafayette.

Riders in the uniquely Cajun, traditional Courir de Mardi Gras cavort through the countryside as they collect ingredients for their town's communal gumbo. Everybody's welcome to share the fun!

History!

Cajun Country's answer to Williamsburg --- Costumed guides, great food, cooking and dancing classes are among the delights at this 23-acre Cajun/Creole living history museum. Lafayette's "Mother Church" is also home to the majestic 450+-year-old Cathedral Oak, one of the largest in the nation and a charter member of the prestigious Live Oak Society. The former hub for a vast plantation system, "Shadows" has a fascinating, fully documented history and is a "National Trust for Historic Preservation" property, one of only 20 in the U.S.

Cajun Culture!

Crawfish look like little lobsters and taste like them, too! They're best in the superb, local restaurants featured on our tours. Tabasco sauce is made here on Avery Island --- Visit the factory and beautiful Jungle Gardens. This shallow, flat, canoe-like boat is a Cajun pirouge (PEE row), perfect for shallow waters.

Nature!

This is THE PLACE to see Gators! An estimated 380,000 live in Louisianna, and our tours offer you (in safety and comfort) the REALLY BIG ONES! Louisiana is home to the magnificient Atchafalaya (uh CHAFF uh lie uh) Basin, America's largest fresh-water swamp (800,000+ acres) and the reservoir for drainage from 38 states. This Roseate Spoonbill glides above Lake Martin, ranked by the Audubon Society as one of the top-ten bird-watching spots in the nation.
